Medical Laboratory Scientist - Haematology

Wellington SCL provides high quality diagnostic pathology services to the community, Health Care professionals and their patients. Wellington SCL is owned by Healthscope a healthcare company committed to providing facilities and services that deliver exceptional care to its clients.

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Medical Laboratory Scientist to fill a full time permanent position in our Masterton Laboratory. Our Masterton lab is based at Masterton Hospital that operates as a Core lab. This position will take the lead in Haematology however the successful candidate will need to be willing to turn their hand to other areas of the lab such as Biochemistry, Blood Bank and Microbiology.

The position is 40 hours per week and includes participating on the on-call roster and working weekends.

You will be responsible for a wide range of tasks including; performing routine laboratory tests, providing technical advice to other staff and assisting clients in obtaining information as well as assisting in Specimen Reception.

To succeed in this role you will need:

  • To be a NZ Medical Sciences Council registered Scientist with at least 2 years' experience.
  • A strong Haematology background, with morphology experience essential.
  • Experience as a Scientist working in a Core Laboratory is desirable
  • A sound knowledge of laboratory operations including; safety, operation of equipment and hands-on practical experience. Strong problem solving skills.
  • The ability to work in a methodical manner adhering to strict quality procedure guidelines.
  • The ability to follow procedures and instructions.
  • A team focus with initiative, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and possess the ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail with good record-keeping skills.

Flexibility in working shifts across the 24/7 roster in order to meet the service needs, will be required, as will be a customer focus and commitment to provide an excellent service to the greater community.
